BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen may not survive in their current form by 2030 — expert

The head of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Mr. Šuljarik, stated that the automotive industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation: traditional car manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen face serious challenges and risk failing to maintain their current business models by 2030. This situation is driven by the rapid development of electric vehicles and changing market conditions.

Key reasons for these shifts include the influx of affordable electric vehicles from Chinese manufacturers and new competitors who lack historical legacy and large fanbases, allowing them to adapt more easily to industry evolution. Meanwhile, the three leading German companies are cutting budgets, conducting mass layoffs, and even shutting down factories.

Despite these challenges, the BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen brands are expected to remain in the market, but they will have a fundamentally different business concept and strategic focus by 2030 in response to the new automotive landscape.
