Epic Games and Google have reached an agreement that ends a five-year legal battle.

Epic Games has reached an agreement with Google that could potentially end a five-year legal battle over the Android app store. The companies announced the agreement in a joint legal document, stating that it would resolve disputes and make Android a more competitive platform for users and developers. Earlier this summer, Epic won an appeal when the court upheld a jury verdict condemning Google's app store policies.

The terms of the agreement remain confidential and must be confirmed by District Judge James Donoghue. It follows his October 2024 ruling requiring Google to provide access to competing third-party app stores. Epic filed lawsuits against Google and Apple in 2020, seeking to bypass exclusive payment systems with commissions of up to 30%. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney called the deal “an impressive offer” that could change the market for users.
