Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro will speak with CNBC about the company's growth strategy

Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro will give a live interview to CNBC on Friday, August 14, from the annual D23 Expo. He took the helm of the media and theme park company in March, succeeding Bob Iger after a period of uncertainty regarding his successor and the company’s turnaround.

Prior to his appointment as CEO, D’Amaro led Disney Experiences—a division that includes theme parks, cruise lines, and consumer products. According to CNBC, this division is the company’s main source of profitability.

D’Amaro has previously cited storytelling, intellectual property, and technology as the foundation for Disney’s future growth. Among his first tasks in this role is maintaining momentum in the company’s key areas, particularly theme parks and streaming services, which investors are closely monitoring.

A week earlier, Disney released its quarterly results, which, according to CNBC, once again highlighted the strengths of its theme park and streaming divisions. Wall Street reacted positively to the growth of the theme park segment, despite macroeconomic uncertainty for consumers.

D’Amaro also stated that Disney is considering launching a free, ad-supported streaming service to attract more viewers to Disney+. Following his appointment, the company began a new round of cost-cutting measures: the first wave of layoffs affected nearly 1,000 employees. Subsequently, Disney reportedly laid off several hundred employees in its ESPN, Pixar, and National Geographic divisions.
