Investors Pour Billions Into Military Tech

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has fueled a boom in Europe’s defense industry. Startups like Helsing are rapidly adapting drones and AI systems for the battlefield, while private investors are pouring billions into military technology.

Helsing, founded in 2021 in Munich, is now valued at €12 billion and develops AI systems for fighter jets and drones. Alongside it, ARX Robotics and Swarm Biotactics are creating experimental “spy cockroaches” and autonomous underwater vehicles.
Analysts describe the trend as a “gold rush” in defense business. Investors see quick returns in defense startups, but experts warn of risks: private profit motives could overshadow state strategic priorities and ethical considerations in warfare.
