Following the attacks on Wildberries and Ozon warehouses, the industry could lose 400 billion rubles

Data Insight has lowered its growth forecast for the online sales market in Russia by 20% following attacks on Wildberries and Ozon warehouses. According to the analytics firm’s estimates, the industry’s total losses could reach 400 million orders and 400 billion rubles in revenue.

According to the company’s founder, Fyodor Virin, the total market volume this year will amount to 15 trillion rubles instead of the expected 15.4 trillion. The brunt of the impact was felt in the second half of the year following attacks on Wildberries and Ozon warehouses, which led to product shortages, logistical disruptions, and the cancellation of about 30% of pending orders. Part of the unmet demand has shifted to other online platforms and brick-and-mortar stores, where a temporary uptick in foot traffic has been observed.

Wildberries suffered the greatest losses, as all of its key logistics complexes were affected by the attacks. According to analysts’ estimates, the losses of the managing company RWB amount to 147–280 billion rubles, while those of its sellers total 445–507 billion rubles. Due to payment delays caused by the attacks, sellers are complaining en masse about a prolonged lack of funds and are expressing their intention to suspend operations on the platform and liquidate their remaining inventory.

At the same time, the losses of the Ozon marketplace and its sellers are estimated to be significantly lower—around 100 billion rubles—due to the presence of a more extensive and leased warehouse infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Wildberries sellers have reported payment delays totaling 20 billion rubles.

Ukrainian drones simultaneously attacked a Lukoil oil refinery and a Wildberries warehouse in Russia.

As a reminder, the Orsk oil refinery in the Orenburg region of Russia completely halted operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones.
