After ICE raid in Georgia, Hyundai doubles down on U.S. investment
Despite a recent immigration raid that detained over 300 South Korean workers for visa violations, Hyundai Motor Group is moving forward with its massive $2.7 billion EV plant in Ellabell, Georgia. The sprawling 2,900-acre facility is set to become one of the most advanced auto manufacturing hubs in the United States.

The company plans to invest $26 billion across the U.S. by 2030, including the Ellabell site, which will eventually employ 8,500 people. Hyundai views America as a strategic market for electric vehicles — even amid political tensions and policy uncertainty under President Trump’s administration.
Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp called the factory “the largest economic development project in the state’s history,” while residents note that Hyundai’s arrival is transforming the rural South into a modern industrial powerhouse.
