Russian manufacturers have been forced to reduce the protein content in their products
Major pasta manufacturers in Russia have begun reducing the protein content in their products in an effort to cut costs amid rising raw material prices. This applies, in particular, to the brands “Rolton” and Baisad. According to reports from Russian Telegram channels on May 18, the protein content in pasta has dropped from the traditional 13.5–14 grams to 10–12 grams per 100 grams of product.
Consumers are already noting a decline in product quality, particularly their tendency to overcook. Pasta factories have begun using cheaper raw materials due to rising prices for high-quality wheat, the cost of which has doubled in a few years—from 10,000–15,000 to over 20,000 rubles per ton.
At the same time, costs for packaging, delivery, and production have increased. Meanwhile, stores are giving preference to cheaper goods at lower prices.
