Dispute in Arizona: Circle K sues manager over $12.8 million lottery win

In the United States, Circle K in Arizona filed a lawsuit against a store manager in Scottsdale over a $12.8 million lottery jackpot—the largest win in the state since 2019. The dispute arose after a customer left 25 lottery tickets on the counter, including the winning one.

On November 24, 2025, a customer purchased tickets worth $85 but paid only $60, leaving some tickets behind in the store. The next morning, the manager found these tickets, ended his shift, removed his uniform, and asked a colleague to sell them to him for $10 as a regular customer. Later, Circle K confiscated the winning ticket and delivered it to the central office. According to Arizona state regulations, printed but unredeemed tickets left by customers automatically become the property of the store.

This case may have significant legal implications for how lottery tickets are handled in retail stores in Arizona and will clarify who holds the rights to jackpot-winning tickets in similar situations.
