Zuckerberg Predicts the Emergence of New Professions Thanks to AI
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the future development of artificial intelligence could create a large number of jobs rather than lead to mass unemployment. In his view, the technology will spur the emergence of new products, services, and professions, according to Fortune.
In an essay published on Meta’s website, Zuckerberg spoke out against predictions of a “job apocalypse” previously voiced by representatives of the tech industry, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. He wrote that he does not understand why people who believe that AI will eliminate most jobs and a significant part of the human role are striving to create such a future.
Zuckerberg noted that just a generation ago, professions now so widespread—such as app developers, social media content creators, electric vehicle service technicians, and data center operators—barely existed. Among possible new occupations, he mentioned designers who will create physical products in one-person studios, builders of virtual worlds, and personal biologists who will develop personalized treatments.

At the same time, the Meta executive acknowledged that the transition period could be difficult for workers if automation outpaces their ability to acquire new skills. In his view, greater investment is needed in training for professions less vulnerable to automation, particularly skilled trades. He also noted that there is a shortage of carpenters, electricians, and construction workers to meet the demand associated with infrastructure development.
Earlier this year, Meta committed $115 million to expand the America’s Workforce Academy program to train data center technicians. The five-week training program is free, and graduates are guaranteed a job at one of Meta’s data center sites. Zuckerberg also believes that AI will be able to provide people with personalized mentors to help them master professional skills, languages, hobbies, and other pursuits.
