Ukraine has agreed to long-term liquefied natural gas supplies via a terminal in Lithuania
Ukraine and Lithuania have signed an official agreement on the long-term supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the Ukrainian market via the Lithuanian terminal in Klaipėda.
This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko following intergovernmental consultations during an official visit to Lithuania. Thanks to the signed agreement, the volume of fuel supplied to Ukraine from the Baltic region will increase significantly.
The head of government noted that the technological capabilities of the Klaipėda infrastructure facility allow for the reception of liquefied natural gas from leading global producers, both from the United States and from countries in the Middle East. The national joint-stock company Naftogaz of Ukraine has previously had successful practical experience receiving and processing similar tanker shipments of natural gas via this logistics route. New intergovernmental agreements are aimed at significantly expanding and strategically strengthening this energy import channel, which will allow for the diversification of resource supply sources and enhance the country’s energy security.
The government has raised gas prices for four categories of consumers.
Ukraine will purchase gas for the winter jointly with the EU.
