Milk purchase prices are rising in Ukraine
Purchasing prices for raw milk are rising in Ukraine due to increased export demand and higher prices for commodities on the global market.
As of September 9, the average purchase price for extra-grade milk had risen by 70 kopecks compared to the previous month, reaching 15.30 hryvnia per kilogram excluding VAT; for higher-grade milk — by 80 kopecks to 15.00 hryvnia, and for first-grade milk — by 1 hryvnia to 14.50 hryvnia. The weighted average price for the three grades reached 15.10 hryvnia per kilogram, which is 75 kopecks more than a month earlier.
Prices are rising despite the deteriorating security situation and weak domestic demand. There are no significant stocks of butter or dry milk on the market, while the global supply of raw materials is shrinking. According to analysts’ forecasts, by the end of September, the price of large batches of extra-grade milk could rise to 15.50–16.00 hryvnias per kilogram, and by the end of the year—to 17.00–17.50 hryvnias per kilogram.
At the same time, further price increases may be curbed by rising logistics costs due to new delivery systems, a potential buildup of warehouse inventories in the event of a drop in consumption of fresh products, and intensified competition resulting from growing imports of dairy products, particularly cheese from Poland.
