COP31 and astronautical congress could extend Antalya’s season
Antalya, Türkiye, will host the 77th International Astronautical Congress in October and the 31st UN Climate Change Conference, COP31, at the end of November. Tourism industry representatives expect these events to increase hotel occupancy and extend the tourism season, Anadolu Agency reports.
Events in October and November
The 77th International Astronautical Congress will take place in Antalya on October 5–9. COP31 is scheduled for the end of November.
Kaan Kaşif Kavaloğlu, president of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Investors Association, said that the congress and autumn holidays would increase visitor flows in October. According to him, diversifying tourism offerings has already had a positive effect on hotel occupancy this month.
Kavaloğlu noted that some hotels close in November because they are not geared toward conference and business tourism. He expects the climate conference to extend the season until the end of the third week of November.

Expectations of the hotel sector
İsmail Çağlar, general manager of IC Hotels Green Palace and Villas, said that Antalya hotels would host conference group participants and senior officials as part of COP31. According to him, preparations for guest accommodation, catering and security have been completely reorganized in view of the expected increase in guest numbers.
Çağlar added that hotels in the Kundu district expect high occupancy due to the conference. In his assessment, COP31 could attract about 150,000 visitors and have a positive effect on the hotel sector.
Kavaloğlu also said that Türkiye was the first to introduce a sustainable tourism program jointly with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. In his view, COP31 will give the country and Antalya an opportunity to present the tourism sector’s sustainability initiatives.
