Ukraine's partners insist on a just peace — German Foreign Ministry

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that Ukraine’s partners are working together to achieve a lasting and just peace, but the main obstacle remains Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to engage at the negotiating table.

Wadephul emphasized that the decisions taken will not weaken Ukraine’s defence or create conditions for new Russian attacks. He noted that the United States shares this position, which has allowed for modifications to the proposed “peace plan.”

Topics such as NATO, the EU, and European integration were excluded from the negotiations and will instead be addressed with European partners. Diplomatic consultations are continuing in Geneva and Washington, while EU foreign ministers will continue discussions on ways to achieve peace.

On 25 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new meeting of the “Coalition of the Resolute,” during which participants plan to agree on further actions in the context of the war in Ukraine.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that any peace agreement with Russia requires Ukraine’s consent.
