Alcaraz plans to take longer breaks more often during the tennis season
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, after returning at the US Open in New York, USA, said that he plans to take longer breaks more often during the season in the future. The athlete resumed competing after a four-month break due to a right wrist injury and reached the fourth round of the tournament, defeating China’s Wu Yibing 6:3, 6:4, 6:1, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
Return after injury
Alcaraz had not played since April because of a right wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from the Barcelona Open. According to the tennis player, he had no physical problems after his US Open matches and recovered well.
The Spaniard noted that he feels as though he had been competing all this time and is surprised by how he recovers after every match. He added that the injury was not the result of an excessive number of matches.

Preparation and psychological state
According to Alcaraz, future breaks are needed primarily for psychological recovery and quality preparation for tournaments. He explained that he does not consider it necessary to play a large number of competitions in a row and wants to approach Grand Slam tournaments and the Masters 1000 series sufficiently prepared.
Last year, Alcaraz played 80 matches. Before his injury this season, his record stood at 22 wins and three losses; in particular, he won his seventh Grand Slam title by winning the Australian Open. The tennis player also expressed concern about the length of the season and the number of tournaments.
Alcaraz said that a packed schedule sometimes deprives him of the joy of playing. In his view, long breaks will make it possible to preserve the enjoyment of competing on court and avoid playing every tournament during the season.
