Rivers United coach Finidi George calls a draw an acceptable result in Côte d’Ivoire
Rivers United coach Finidi George said the Nigerian team will aim to avoid defeat against Ivorian side San-Pédro in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in the first match of the CAF Champions League qualifying round. The match is scheduled for Saturday, September 5.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, George considers a draw an acceptable result, as it would allow the team to return to Nigeria with confidence ahead of the return leg. According to him, a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline could be a good outcome, with the main thing being to avoid defeat.
Updated team squad
According to George, most Rivers United players are newcomers to the team. The coach noted that the updated squad performed well in the opening match of the domestic championship against Plateau United, and he expects another successful performance in Abidjan.
The former Nigeria national team coach said that the team is not limiting its ambitions in the continental tournament. In his view, reaching the quarterfinals or semifinals would be a good result for the club. In its previous continental campaign, Rivers United reached the group stage and later advanced to the quarterfinals.
