In New York, United States, Czech tennis player Linda Noskova defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round of the US Open, 7:5, 5:7, 6:4, and advanced to the tournament's quarterfinals. According to Channel NewsAsia, Noskova will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka in her next match.

Three-set match

Noskova, seeded sixth, won the first set thanks to a break in the 11th game. In the second set, she took the lead after a break in the seventh game, when Kostyuk made two double faults and an unforced error.

Eleventh-seeded Kostyuk saved two match points, levelled the score in the set at 5:5, then broke to love in the 12th game and took the match into a deciding set.

Deciding set

In the third set, Noskova moved ahead 4:3 after a winning backhand. Ultimately, the Czech player ended the match on her sixth match point with a serve that Kostyuk was unable to return.

After the victory, Noskova said she felt great relief and that the match had been more difficult for her emotionally than physically. She also noted that the contest could have ended in favour of either player.

Earlier this year, Noskova defeated Kostyuk in straight sets on her way to the Wimbledon title, but the match in New York proved considerably more difficult.
