Tennis player Alcaraz reaches US Open quarterfinals in the United States
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated American Tommy Paul 6:4, 6:3, 6:4 in the fourth round of the US Open in New York, United States, and reached the tournament quarterfinals. The second seed continues his bid for a second consecutive title on the Flushing Meadows courts, ABC News Australia reports.
Return after injury
Alcaraz missed nearly five months due to a right wrist injury and did not play in the previous two Grand Slam tournaments. After defeating 20th seed Paul, the Spaniard said he feels he is returning to full power.
At Arthur Ashe Stadium, Alcaraz hit 33 winners. One of them — a 164 km/h down-the-line forehand — helped him take the lead early in the second set. He earned match point with another powerful forehand.

Major streak
The seven-time Grand Slam champion extended his winning streak at majors to 18 matches. In New York, he reached the quarterfinals for the fifth time in six US Open appearances.
Paul put up resistance and, for the second time in the tournament, won a point with a shot from behind the net post. However, Alcaraz maintained his advantage despite support from a significant part of the crowd for the American tennis player. In the quarterfinals, the Spaniard will play American Ben Shelton or Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
