Amelia Earhart named a contender for St Leger top three at Doncaster
At Doncaster, analyst Declan Rix considers Amelia Earhart an interesting contender to finish in the top three of Saturday's Betfred St Leger Stakes. He recommended a bet on this outcome at odds of 11/2, Sky Sports News reports.
The main race of the St Leger festival is scheduled to start at 15:35 on Saturday. The leader in the betting market is Enceladus, trained by Joseph O'Brien. Other horses highlighted by commentators include Christmas Day, Pierre Bonnard and Highwayman. Tom Marquand, who won the St Leger last year, will ride Amelia Earhart, while Saffie Osborne will ride Highwayman.
Prediction for Enceladus
Kate Tracey selected Enceladus, giving him the edge over Christmas Day. In her assessment, the horse has shown gradual progress over longer distances. In 2026, he won three starts: a maiden race at Cork, the King George VI Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group Three Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.

Tracey noted that Enceladus finished strongly at Goodwood and that the St Leger distance of one mile and six and a half furlongs should suit him. In her view, the son of Sea The Stars is increasingly showing stamina as the distances get longer. She also pointed to comparisons between Enceladus and Galileo Chrome, who won this race for Joseph O'Brien in 2020.
Christmas Day and Amelia Earhart
Sam Boswell backed Christmas Day. He questioned whether Enceladus has sufficiently strong form to be the favourite at shorter odds and suggested that the prices could change before the day of the race. Boswell called the St Leger a contest between two horses and added that he had lost faith in Pierre Bonnard.
Rix considers the current St Leger field fairly mediocre and does not expect significant improvement from the two Ballydoyle horses after the step up in distance. At the same time, he singled out Amelia Earhart, taking into account the sex allowance. According to him, her performances have gradually improved, while removing the blinkers and hood could help her find an additional reserve. Rix also recalled that Amelia Earhart is a full sister to Cleveland, the winner of the Chester Cup.
