Audi to appeal decision over Tsunoda's 10th place at Italian Grand Prix
The Audi team intends to appeal the decision of the stewards at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy, after which its drivers remained outside the points-scoring positions. Racing Bulls stand-in driver Yuki Tsunoda finished 10th because the stewards did not impose sanctions on him over an additional formation lap before the race restart.
As Channel NewsAsia reports, an Audi representative said that the team had lodged a notice of intention to appeal the decision. The case will now be considered under the appeal procedure of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
Reason for the additional lap
The stewards confirmed after the race that the additional formation lap was caused by the positioning of Tsunoda's car on the starting grid. According to them, car number 22 initially moved towards the left side of the grid, after which the driver realised he was heading to the wrong starting position, changed direction and took the correct place.

Race director Rui Marques said that he decided to abort the start because of the car's behaviour while approaching its starting position. Normally, a driver who causes an additional formation lap must complete the lap and start from the pit lane. If he fails to do so, a mandatory stop-and-go penalty is предусмотрено.
Racing Bulls' position
Tsunoda continued the race under normal conditions and received no penalty. Racing Bulls said that neither the team nor the driver himself had been informed that they were the cause of the additional formation lap. The stewards also stated that Marques had acted in good faith and out of caution.
Audi drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg finished 11th and 12th respectively. According to the source, the stewards' decision left Audi without points at the Italian round.
