Bayern target Champions League victory
Germany's Bayern Munich will begin the new Champions League season with a home match against Norway's Bodø/Glimt on Thursday. Team forward Harry Kane said the club is determined to win the trophy it has not claimed since 2020.
Kane told TNT Sports that the team sees this season as its opportunity and must find a way to achieve its goal. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the English striker also noted that being the strongest team is not enough to win the tournament, as luck is also needed at decisive moments.
Previous setbacks
During Kane's three years at Bayern, the team reached the Champions League semi-finals twice but did not advance further. Last season, the Munich side lost to the tournament's eventual winner, PSG. The Parisians won the first semi-final match 5:4, while the return match in Munich ended in a 1:1 draw.

In the 2023/24 season, Bayern came close to the final but were eliminated after a tie against Real Madrid. In the second match, Kane left the pitch six minutes before the end of the game, when the Munich side were leading by one goal. Real scored twice in three minutes and changed the course of the two-leg tie.
Squad depth
Head coach Vincent Kompany named victories in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League as the club's highest goals. In the summer, Bayern signed Ismael Saibari, who can play in various attacking positions, as well as German footballer Nathaniel Brown. This season, Brown has been used at left-back and in midfield.
Former Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who won the Champions League with the club in 2013, believes the Munich side will dominate the Bundesliga. At the same time, he suggested that the team may need one or two more players during the demanding season, including because of uncertainty surrounding Jamal Musiala.
