England close to a 3-0 Test series win over Pakistan
England’s team in Birmingham, United Kingdom, moved closer to a 3-0 Test series victory over Pakistan after the second day of the third match. England scored 453 runs in reply to Pakistan’s 133 in the first innings, while the visitors ended the day on 52-2 in their second innings, Dawn reports.
Pakistan need another 268 runs to force England to bat again. Play on the second day ended early because of rain. After four balls of their second innings, Pakistan had already lost both opening batters: Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique were dismissed off Ollie Robinson’s bowling.
Robinson continued his productive run
Robinson finished the day with figures of 2-10 from six overs. In both innings of this match, Saim Ayub has scored no runs. During the series, the 32-year-old English bowler has taken 21 wickets at an average of fewer than seven runs per wicket.
Shan Masood was on 21 runs when play stopped, while Azan Awais had 29. Masood had earlier been dropped at slip by Ben Duckett off Gus Atkinson’s bowling.

England began the second day on 156-4, having recovered from 39-3 on the first day. Harry Brook was run out for 75, and his fifth-wicket partnership with Dan Lawrence was worth 86 runs. Lawrence scored 65 before a delivery from Mohammad Imran hit his wicket.
It was Imran’s first wicket in Test cricket; he later also dismissed Gus Atkinson, who scored 19 runs. Jamie Smith was out for 69 when Razaullah caught the ball off his own bowling. Razaullah, making his Test debut, took four wickets for 148 runs.
Robinson added 50 runs off 47 balls, while Jofra Archer scored 32 runs at a quick pace. During Pakistan’s second innings, Jordan Cox replaced Smith as England’s wicketkeeper: Smith injured the ring finger of his left hand on Wednesday.
Pakistan have lost 15 of their previous 20 Test matches. After losing the second Test by 194 runs, the team released seven players and also dismissed head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and his assistant Umar Gul. Pakistan made four changes to their lineup in Birmingham.
