Betis beat Lille in the Champions League thanks to Parrott’s goal

Spain’s Real Betis secured a comeback victory over France’s Lille in a Champions League match in Lille, France. The decisive goal was scored by Irish forward Troy Parrott, while the hosts finished the game with 10 men after Ethan Mbappé was sent off.

As MyJoyOnline reports, Parrott extended his scoring run after joining Betis last month. On Friday, he also scored the only goal in the winning match against Real Madrid.

Goals in the first half

Lille were more active in the first half of the match. Japanese forward Ayase Ueda, who joined from Feyenoord in the summer, opened the scoring with a close-range header after a cross from Ethan Mbappé — the brother of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé.

Betis responded with a goal from Marc Bartra, with the defender heading in a cross from Pablo Fornals. Lille then took the lead again after a corner taken by Gaëtan Perrin, which Alexsandro finished with a header.

Betis comeback and sending-off

Three minutes after the start of the second half, Bartra equalized for a second time, heading Isco’s free kick into the net. Betis’ winning goal was scored by Parrott, who sent a low shot into the far corner.

The situation became more difficult for the French club after Ethan Mbappé received a red card: he was sent off for an incident in which, according to the source’s description, he may have elbowed Nathan off the ball. Lille tried to come back and brought on, among others, former Arsenal and Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud, but could not equalize.

Lille will play their next Champions League match away against Arsenal on October 13, while Betis will host Porto on October 14.
