Brisbane Lions celebrate AFL grand final victory in Melbourne — ABC News Australia
Brisbane Lions players celebrated in Melbourne, Australia, after defeating the Fremantle Dockers in the Australian Football League grand final. The match at the MCG ended 96–89, with the Lions securing victory in the final minutes of the game.
Post-grand final celebrations
After the match, Lions footballers gathered at a bar in the South Yarra district and celebrated into the night. The players took turns drinking from the 2026 premiership cup. The cold and rainy weather on grand final day did not prevent the celebrations.
In Fitzroy, the team’s supporters gathered at the Royal Derby Hotel and recalled the tense course of the match. One fan called the title the Lions’ third in a row, while another supporter said she was nervous during the final five minutes of the match.

Order at the stadium
As ABC News Australia reports, just over 100,000 spectators gathered at the MCG. Police said they were satisfied with the visitors’ behaviour: nine people were removed from the stadium for behavioural violations, while another person was issued an infringement notice. There were no arrests.
The following day, the Brisbane Lions were due to hold a family event for supporters at Brunswick Street Oval in Fitzroy, the former home of the Fitzroy Lions. There, the players were to present the premiership cup to fans. Fremantle footballers were flying home in the morning after the defeat.
