Daicos wins Brownlow with record 47 votes — ABC News Australia
In Australia, Collingwood player Nick Daicos won the Brownlow Medal for the first time, receiving a record 47 votes. He surpassed the previous record of Patrick Cripps, who received 45 votes in 2024.
According to ABC News Australia, Daicos's rivals during the vote count included Marcus Bontempelli, Zak Butters and Bailey Smith, but the award was won by the Collingwood footballer.
Voting records
The 23-year-old Daicos became the only footballer in league history to receive more than 30 votes in three consecutive seasons. He also became the first player to have six consecutive matches in which he received three votes each, and the first to collect 13 such matches in one season.

In 2024, Daicos received 38 votes — at that time, it was the highest total in league history. That year, Cripps received 45 votes. In the previous season, Daicos was also among the favourites, but the medal was won by Gold Coast representative Matt Rowell.
Career at Collingwood
Daicos was drafted in 2021, when Collingwood finished the season second from bottom. In his debut AFL season, the team rose to fourth place and fell one point short of reaching the grand final.
In Daicos's second season, the club won the AFL championship. Early in his career, he mainly played in the defensive half and occasionally appeared in the centre, while in 2023 he became an important part of the team's midfield. After the victory, Daicos said winning the medal was a relief for him after several seasons in which he had been considered one of the favourites.
