Former Togo national team captain Emmanuel Adebayor said that he influenced Auxerre defender Marvin Senaya’s decision to represent Ghana. This was reported by MyJoyOnline, citing Adebayor’s interview with 3Sports.
Choice between Ghana and Togo
Senaya, who has Ghanaian and Togolese heritage, received call-ups to the national teams of Ghana and Togo simultaneously in March 2026. Ultimately, the 25-year-old footballer chose Ghana and played in all four of the team’s matches at the 2026 World Cup.
According to Adebayor, he personally advised Senaya to choose Ghana, as participation in the World Cup could become the main tournament of the footballer’s career. The former player also said he was happy for the player, and Ghanaians were proud of him.

Recovery from injury
The Auxerre defender suffered an injury on July 3 in the Round of 32 match of the World Cup against Colombia at a stadium in Kansas City. As the outlet notes, Senaya continues his rehabilitation: he was seen in the gym working on the recovery of his right leg. He is gradually preparing for a possible return to the pitch.
Ghana’s next matches
The Ghana national team will begin qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a match against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 in Bouaké. Five days later, the team is due to play Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
