Edo Queens thrash USFA to reach CAF Champions League qualifying final

Nigerian women’s football club Edo Queens defeated Burkina Faso’s USFA 5:1 in the semi-finals of the WAFU-B qualifying tournament for the Confederation of African Football Women’s Champions League. The match took place in Ouagadougou at Stade 4 Août, and the victory sent the reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League champions into the regional qualifying final.

As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Atume Doosur opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Towards the end of the first half, Chioma Moses, who scored in the 43rd minute, and Valentina Uroko in the 45th minute extended the Nigerian team’s lead. Edo Queens led 3:0 at the break.

Goals after the break

One minute after the start of the second half, Doshima Tarnum scored Edo Queens’ fourth goal following a corner kick. In the 62nd minute, Aminat Folorunsho made it 5:0. USFA scored their only goal in the first minute of stoppage time.

Group stage results

Edo Queens are the winners of the 2024 WAFU-B tournament. In Group B, the team secured two wins in three matches: they thrashed Niger’s AS Garde Nationale 7:0 and also defeated Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas 3:1.

Edo Queens suffered their only group-stage defeat against Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies, 1:2. In the final, the Nigerian club could face Ampem Darkoa Ladies for the second time in the tournament. The winner of the WAFU-B qualifiers will earn a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
