Heat hazard declared ahead of Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix
Formula 1’s governing body has declared a heat hazard ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, which will take place at the Monza circuit this weekend. This is the second such case in the current season, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters.
Temperature forecast
Race director Rui Marques said the forecast predicts temperatures above 31 degrees Celsius, or 88 degrees Fahrenheit. The last time a heat hazard was declared this season was during the Austrian Grand Prix in June.
Cooling systems
After a heat hazard is declared, teams must install cooling systems for drivers in the cars, including liquid-cooled vests. However, drivers are not required to use these systems.

If a driver declines to use a cooling system, the team may choose a ballast penalty. The minimum car weight is increased to account for the weight of the required equipment.
Sunday’s race in Monza will be the 13th round of the championship. Ahead of his home Grand Prix, 20-year-old Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli leads the overall standings.
