Egypt contested the refereeing following its dramatic loss to Argentina at the 2026 World Cup

The Egyptian Football Association has filed a complaint with FIFA regarding the performance of French referee François Letexier and his officiating crew following Egypt’s loss to Argentina in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The federation believes that the referees’ decisions significantly influenced the outcome of the match.

The Egyptian Football Association believes that the referee played a “decisive role” in Argentina’s victory.

In addition to demanding an explanation, the complaint calls for an investigation into the decisions, which Egypt describes as controversial and biased against the “Pharaohs.”

The federation has also officially requested that the French refereeing crew be removed from further duty in the tournament, as it considers their mistakes to have been decisive, according to AS.

The Colombian national team became the last team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, defeating Switzerland in a penalty shootout. Neither regulation nor extra time produced a winner, so the fate of the spot in the next round was decided by penalty kicks.

Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup following a 1–2 loss to Norway in the round of 16 was met with intense emotions in the locker room. According to Brazilian media reports, Neymar, with tears in his eyes, addressed his teammates and the coaching staff, thanking everyone for the journey they had shared.
