Former footballer Daniel Amokachi speaks about bankruptcy at age 27
In Nigeria, former national team footballer Daniel Amokachi said that he went bankrupt at the age of 27, but investments previously made by his father helped him restore his financial situation. Amokachi said this in an interview with Premium Times Nigeria.
According to the 53-year-old former player, he began earning substantial amounts of money as a teenager. Amokachi said that at 17 he drove a Porsche and worked as a model while playing in Belgium. He also spoke about acquaintances with global celebrities and the attributes of international fame.
His father’s investments
Amokachi said that his father invested part of his son’s football earnings on his behalf. When the footballer went bankrupt, those investments left him with assets, including real estate that could be sold.
The former player called his father’s decision the main reason why he was able to stay afloat after the financial collapse. According to him, the experience of fame, wealth and financial problems became a lesson he can share with younger athletes.

Activities after his career
Amokachi believes that after ending their careers, athletes should remain in the public eye, as this opens up new opportunities. He noted that football, even after the end of his playing career, gave him the opportunity to work as a coach, engage in social projects and interact with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football.
The former footballer also said that he sometimes receives offers to advertise brands as a model. According to him, he maintains his physical fitness and tries to go to the gym five or six times a week.
During the interview, Amokachi mentioned former mentor Stephen Keshi, whom he called an important person in his development as a footballer, coach and person. Keshi died on June 7, 2016, while another former Nigeria national team coach, Shaibu Amodu, died three days later.
