A former Roma player works as an Uber driver
Max Tonetto, a former Italian soccer star, has surprised the public with a career change.
The 51-year-old former defender for the Italian national team now works as a driver for the popular ride-hailing service Uber, according to La Repubblica.
Despite his celebrity status, Tonetto makes no attempt to hide his identity. Many passengers recognize the driver as a legend of the Roman club, causing demand for rides with him to skyrocket.
To date, the former athlete has successfully completed over 190 rides through the streets of Italian cities.
It is important to note that this job is not a result of financial hardship for the Italian soccer veteran. Tonetto has invested significant funds in his own chauffeur-driven car rental business.
The decision to get behind the wheel himself was driven by a desire to personally learn all the intricacies of this service sector and understand customer needs from the inside.
Max Tonetto gained the most fame for his performances with the capital’s “Roma” from 2006 to 2010. As part of the “Wolves,” the defender won the Italian Cup twice and lifted the country’s Super Cup once.
His professional career also includes stints with clubs such as Sampdoria, Lecce, Bologna, and Empoli.
In 1999, Tonetto was part of the legendary AC Milan squad, although he never played a single official match for the Rossoneri.
The highlight of his career was his call-up to the Italian national team in 2007, for which he managed to play one match.
