Eneli Yefimova finished fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke at the European Championships in Paris
Estonian swimmer Eneli Yefimova finished fourth in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke final at the European Championships in Paris. The 21-year-old athlete was just five hundredths of a second away from the bronze medal, according to ERR News.
In Wednesday evening’s final, Yefimova completed the race in 1 minute and 5.94 seconds. This was 0.16 seconds slower than her time in the semifinals, where she set an Estonian national record. At the halfway point, the swimmer was in fifth place, but she moved up to fourth by the finish.

The gold medal went to Great Britain’s Angharad Evans with a time of 1 minute 4.87 seconds, setting a championship record. Two years ago, Yefimova won a gold medal in this same event at the European Championships in Belgrade.
Other Estonian athletes did not advance past the morning preliminaries in Paris. In the men’s 100-meter butterfly, Alex Ahtiainen finished 29th with a time of 52.42 seconds, while Kregoor Zirk placed 32nd with a time of 52.87 seconds. In the women’s 50-meter backstroke, Maari Randväli placed 32nd, and Margaret Markwardt placed 39th. Christopher Palvadre and Ralph Roose finished 36th and 41st, respectively, in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke.
