Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine national team and forward for Inter Miami, has confirmed his intention to take legal action against media representatives who violated his family’s privacy during the funeral service for his father, Jorge Messi.
Jorge Messi, 68, who also served as his son’s agent and manager throughout his career, passed away on August 7 at a clinic in Rosario after a long illness. The funeral took place on Sunday, August 9, at El Prado Cemetery near Rosario amid heightened security measures. The family had asked the media in advance to respect the private nature of the event.
Despite the warnings, some journalists and cameramen flew drones over the cemetery grounds and secretly photographed and filmed the soccer player, his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, and their children during their time of mourning. The photos and video footage, taken without the family’s consent, were made publicly available and circulated online and on the air by a number of media outlets. In light of this, Messi’s legal team is preparing official lawsuits against the media organizations responsible.
