Estonian Kreгор Zirk advanced to the semifinals of the European Championships in Paris
Estonian swimmer Kreгор Zirk advanced to the semifinals in the 200-meter butterfly at the European Championships in Paris. In the qualifying heats, he posted the sixth-fastest time—1 minute 55.96 seconds, according to ERR News.
Zirk said he felt nervous before the start because he hasn’t competed often this season. At the same time, he was satisfied with his morning heat and noted that he could improve his time in the evening semifinals.
The fastest swimmer in the qualifiers was Italy’s Alberto Razzetti, who completed the distance in 1 minute 54.64 seconds. Zirko’s personal best in the 200-meter butterfly is 1 minute 54.22 seconds. He set this record in the semifinals of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Another Estonian swimmer, Christopher Palvadre, set an Estonian record in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 27.70 seconds. He finished 29th overall and did not advance to the semifinals. Kristjan Reivart finished 41st with a time of 27.91 seconds, while Ralf Roose placed 45th, completing the race in 28.04 seconds. The fastest swimmer in this event was Italy’s Simone Cerasuolo with a time of 26.20 seconds.
In the women’s 50-meter freestyle, Eglė Salū finished 46th with a time of 26.79 seconds. In the 100-meter backstroke, Maari Randväli finished 25th, and Margaret Markwardt finished 36th. Zirka’s semifinal in the 200-meter butterfly is scheduled for 8:25 p.m. on Friday, Estonian time. The European Championships will continue through August 16.
