Ferrari to unveil Schumacher tribute livery at Monza, Antonelli to receive a penalty

Ferrari will compete at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza with a special livery dedicated to seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher. As ABC News Australia reports, the one-off car design was prepared for the team’s home race.

The noses of Charles Leclerc’s and Lewis Hamilton’s cars will feature seven stars, matching Schumacher’s number of titles. Hamilton and Leclerc will also wear racing suits with seven stars and the German driver’s logo.

Anniversaries of Schumacher’s Ferrari career

This year marks 30 years since Schumacher joined Scuderia Ferrari, as well as 20 years since his last Formula 1 victory, at the 2006 Chinese Grand Prix. The German won five of his seven championship titles with Ferrari between 2000 and 2004.

Ferrari’s victory in the 1999 Constructors’ Championship was the team’s first in 16 years. In 2000, Schumacher brought Ferrari its first Drivers’ Championship title since 1979, when Jody Scheckter was champion. Schumacher won at the Monza circuit five times as a Ferrari driver.

Penalty for Antonelli

Formula 1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli will receive a grid penalty for his home Italian Grand Prix due to the replacement of power unit components on his Mercedes. Before the event, he leads his two closest pursuers by 59 points.

Formula 1 imposes a seasonal limit on the use of power unit components by teams. A penalty is issued when a driver uses a component beyond the permitted number. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said calculations identified Monza as the best circuit for such a decision.

Mercedes had several power unit problems during the season: Antonelli did not finish in Barcelona, while George Russell encountered issues in Canada and Belgium.
