FIBA has suspended Ukrainian basketball player Sergeyev on suspicion of match-fixing

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided to suspend Ukrainian player Serhiy Sergeyev from competition. The reason cited is suspicion of match-fixing. It is noted that in the summer of 2024, the athlete played for the Ukrainian national team at the William Jones Cup tournament, which took place in Taiwan.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Basketball Federation (FBU).

Earlier, the FIBA Disciplinary Commission found Ukrainian basketball players Oleksandr Kolchenko and Serhiy Pryimak guilty of match-fixing, betting on basketball competitions, and failing to report known instances of corruption. Both players have been banned for life.

As part of the investigation into this case, which involved the Singaporean club Adroit, another Ukrainian basketball player—Igor Sergeyev—was also punished.

However, the big man’s sanction is significantly lighter—his suspension expires on August 1, 2026.

The 24-year-old Ukrainian transferred to Pärnu in Estonia in July 2025. Sergeyev’s most recent club was Adroit Singapore. The big man played in Ukraine for the Cherkasy Monkeys and represented Ukraine’s U-16 and U-18 national youth teams. He also played for the national team at the William Jones Cup tournament in Taiwan in the summer of 2024.
