In Australia, the reigning NRLW women’s champions, the Brisbane Broncos, are on a three-game winning streak ahead of the playoffs. Players Romy Teitzel and Tamika Upton said an emotional talk by head coach Scott Prince with the team at half-time of the match against the Gold Coast Titans became the turning point of the season, ABC News Australia reports.
Reaction after three defeats
On August 23, the Broncos lost to the Titans 20–28, marking the team’s third consecutive defeat. Brisbane went into half-time trailing 4–14. Television cameras captured Prince addressing the players sternly.
According to Teitzel, the team was not meeting its own high standards and deserved to hear the coach’s criticism. She added that the players’ response was driven by their respect for Prince and belief in his game plan.

Three wins before the playoffs
After the loss to the Titans, Brisbane defeated Parramatta 44–10 and St George Illawarra 24–16, before thrashing the Warriors 52–18 at home. The three-game winning streak secured the team a place in the finals.
Broncos captain Tamika Upton said Prince told the team what it needed to hear. She described him as a passionate coach and stressed that the players respect the mentor who led the Broncos to the championship last year. During his playing career, Prince captained the Wests Tigers in their victorious 2005 NRL season.
On Saturday, the Brisbane Broncos will host the Newcastle Knights in an elimination match at Langlands Park in Brisbane.
