After US Open setback

Djokovic's decision to play in China was announced after his first-round US Open defeat to unseeded Argentine Mariano Navone in five sets. During the match, the Serbian tennis player felt nauseous, while back and shoulder problems affected his serve late in the encounter.

The defeat was Djokovic's first loss in the opening round of a Grand Slam tournament since the 2006 Australian Open. He is currently ranked 12th in the world.

The China Open men's draw will run from September 30 to October 6. Last year, world number one Jannik Sinner won the tournament title.
