University of Ghana wins 23 medals at FASU Games in Cairo — MyJoyOnline

The University of Ghana won 23 medals at the 12th Federation of African University Sports (FASU) Games in Cairo, Egypt. The team secured 10 gold, eight silver and five bronze medals in athletics, badminton and tennis, MyJoyOnline reports.

Ten gold medals

In the men's athletics events, university representatives won gold in the long jump, 110-metre hurdles, 400 metres, 4×100-metre relay, 400-metre hurdles and 4×400-metre relay.

The women's team won in the javelin throw, 200 metres and 4×400-metre relay. The University of Ghana earned another gold medal in the mixed 400-metre event.

Silver and bronze

Among the women, silver medals were won in the 800 and 1,500 metres, shot put and 4×100-metre relay. The men finished second in the 5,000 and 100 metres, while the men's badminton pair also won silver.

A bronze medal in athletics came from third place in the men's high jump. In tennis, the university's athletes finished third in the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles events. The team won another bronze medal in men's singles badminton.

At the previous FASU Games, held in 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya, the University of Ghana won 16 medals in three disciplines.
