Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the first World Athletics Championships
Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the gold medal in the high jump at the first World Athletics Championships, currently being held in Budapest. She won the competition with a jump of 1.99 meters.
Second place went to Australia’s Nicola Olislagers with a jump of 1.95 meters, while Serbia’s Angelina Topić and Australia’s Nicola Olislagers tied for third place with jumps of 1.91 meters.
Ukrainian high jumpers Iryna Gerashchenko and Yulia Levchenko finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Overall, Ukraine is also represented at the tournament—which has a limited number of participants and a total prize pool of 10 million U.S. dollars—by Oleg Doroshchuk in the high jump and Mykhailo Kokhan in the hammer throw.

On Thursday, August 27, the final regular-season event of the 2026 Diamond League took place in Zurich. In the women’s high jump, Ukraine will be represented by three athletes: Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Iryna Herashchenko, and Yulia Levchenko.
