Yaroslava Mahuchikh wins high jump at Ultimate Championship in Budapest
Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the debut World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary. On the first day of competition, she cleared 1.99 metres and claimed the title in the women's high jump.

As Channel NewsAsia reports, the Ultimate Championship has a $10 million prize fund, the largest in athletics. Winners of individual events receive $150,000 each, silver medallists receive $75,000 each, and bronze medallists receive $40,000 each. Winners of relay events share $80,000.

Opening day results
Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the men's 5,000 metres in 12 minutes 59.24 seconds. The Olympic champion secured victory with an acceleration at the end of the distance — seven months after Achilles tendon surgery.
Germany's Merlin Hummel won the hammer throw with a result of 81.46 metres. Canada's Ethan Katzberg fouled twice in the opening round, where competitors had only two attempts each. In the mixed 4×100-metre relay, the United States team beat Jamaica by 0.08 seconds. In the women's 800-metre semifinal, Veronica Vankaro fell during the race, which was won by Britain's Keely Hodgkinson. The three-day tournament continued the following day.
