Ghana’s national team lost 0-4 to France in the final Group C match of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland and ended its campaign in the tournament. The Ghanaian team finished bottom of the quartet, MyJoyOnline reports.
Goalless before the break
Before the final round, Ghana retained a chance of reaching the U-20 Women’s World Cup playoffs for the first time in its history: a draw against France would have allowed it to contend for a place in the next round. In the previous match, Ghana defeated South Korea, keeping its qualification hopes alive.
Head coach Charles Sampson made one change to the starting lineup compared with the match against South Korea. Latifa Abesik came in for the injured Esther Asamoah.
Early in the match, Priscilla Mensah scored for Ghana, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The first half ended goalless.

Four goals from France
After the break, France scored four unanswered goals and handed Ghana its second defeat of the tournament. At the same time, South Korea defeated Ecuador.
Ghana earned three points and finished fourth in Group C. France came first with four more points, while South Korea took second place with a one-point advantage over Ghana. Ecuador also earned three points but finished the group stage in third place.
This elimination marked Ghana’s eighth consecutive group-stage exit at the U-20 Women’s World Cup since the team’s tournament debut in 2010. Benin and Tanzania had also previously exited the competition.
