The Indian national team finished the second day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle with a score of 460/9. Devdatt Padikkal scored 167 runs—his first century in Test cricket. The match was significantly interrupted by rain.

According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, Sri Lankan spinners Prabat Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwanta kept the Indian batsmen in check. Jayasuriya took four wickets, conceding 109 runs, while Nuwanta took three wickets for 175 runs. Meanwhile, India was scoring nearly four runs per over and maintained a strong position.

Rishab Pant scored 39 runs but fell to debutant Nuwanta for his first Test wicket. Opener K. L. Rahul, who had left the field on Saturday with cramps after scoring 77 runs, returned to the match and scored 82. Jayaasuriya ended Padikkal’s innings by luring him out of a slump, after which the batsman was run out. Padikkal hit 15 fours and one six. Dhruv Jurel added 51 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja added 13.
