Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko will miss Wimbledon 2026 due to a serious injury
Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko has ended her grass-court season early due to a serious knee injury sustained during the WTA 500 tournament in London. Due to the injury, the athlete will be unable to compete at Wimbledon 2026.
The unfortunate incident occurred at the Queen’s Club tournament, where Mboko was seeded third.
During her first-round match against Czech player Karolina Pliskova, with the score at 2-6, 4-3, the Canadian tennis player slipped on the grass court and severely injured her left knee.
In severe pain, the athlete immediately cried out and could not hold back her tears. After receiving medical attention, it became clear that she would not be able to continue the match.
The next day, Mboko was scheduled to compete in the doubles quarterfinals alongside legendary tennis player Serena Williams, who had just returned to the professional tour.
However, due to the Canadian’s injury, the pair was forced to withdraw from the competition.
Serena supported her colleague on social media, writing: “You are an incredible talent, and I am convinced that you will be back soon. I wish you a speedy recovery.”
According to British media reports, the injury was serious enough that Victoria Mboko has withdrawn from Wimbledon 2026.
The tennis player’s representatives have already informed the tournament organizers that she will be unable to compete in the season’s premier grass-court major.
Thus, the Canadian will miss her second Wimbledon as a professional.
Mboko’s spot in the main draw will be taken by Czech tennis player Daria Vidmanova, who is one of the tallest players on the tour—she stands at 191 centimeters.
The main question now is how long her recovery will take. Medical staff are evaluating her condition, and her team hopes she will be able to return in time for the start of the North American hardcourt tournament series, which traditionally begins in late summer.
Missing Wimbledon was a serious blow for the young Canadian star, who was considered one of the most promising players of the 2026 grass-court season.
Earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on her loss in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
