Queiroz outlines plan to rebuild Ghana national team for 2030 World Cup — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, national football team coach Carlos Queiroz said the team must begin laying the foundation now for a new generation of players capable of reaching and competing at the 2030 World Cup. The rebuilding process should begin during the current qualifying cycle for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, MyJoyOnline reports.
Betting on a new core of the team
Queiroz returned to the Ghana national team after the end of a short-term contract that expired after the 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese specialist, who led the Ghanaian team at that tournament, has begun his second spell with the national side.
According to the coach, the team must gradually build a strong squad capable of qualifying for and competing at the 2030 World Cup. Qualification for AFCON 2027 should mark the beginning of a new rebuilding stage: Queiroz plans to create a core group of players who will form the basis of the national team in the coming years.

Absences ahead of the start of qualification
The coach's plans have already been complicated by injuries and the absence of several players ahead of the first qualifying match against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké. Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from the squad to continue his recovery. Thomas Partey was not called up because of a hamstring problem, while Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei will also be unable to play due to injury.
Ghana will begin its qualifying campaign with a match against Côte d’Ivoire and will host Gambia in Accra on September 29. Queiroz believes the team should use the current period to build a squad with sufficient depth and quality not only for the upcoming AFCON campaign, but also for the subsequent World Cup cycle.
