Kenya's Wanyonyi wins Diamond League 800m final
Kenyan runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi won the 800 metres at the Diamond League final in Brussels, covering the distance in 1 minute 41.80 seconds. According to Channel NewsAsia, the Olympic and world champion claimed his fourth consecutive victory in the series final.
Meeting record in Brussels
The 22-year-old Wanyonyi controlled the race and pulled away from his rivals in the final part of the distance. His result set a meeting record. Algeria's Djamel Sedjati finished second in 1 minute 42.71 seconds, while France's Yanis Meziane took third place, overtaking Canada's Marco Arop, the 2023 world champion, in the final metres.
Wanyonyi said that the main objective was to win and that he needed to run the distance in about 1 minute 41 seconds to do so. His current form has prompted speculation that the athlete could come close to David Rudisha's world record of 1 minute 40.91 seconds.

Duplantis withdraws from competition
Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis won with a result of 6.12 metres. World record holder Armand Duplantis withdrew from the competition because of stiffness in his leg. The Swede said that he does not yet know whether he will be able to compete at the debut World Athletics Ultimate Championships tournament in Budapest next week.
In the 1,500 metres, Australia's Cameron Myers won in 3 minutes 30.14 seconds, edging Kenya's Phanuel Koech at the finish. Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who is continuing his recovery after Achilles tendon surgery in February, finished fourth.
Other final winners
American Chase Jackson won the women's shot put with a result of 21.14 metres, the best in the world this season. Olympic champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia finished first in the 200 metres in 21.79 seconds. Jamaica's Oblique Seville won the men's 100 metres in 9.90 seconds, while Jacob Tharp won the 110 metres hurdles in 13.03 seconds.
