Kostiuk defeated her Russian opponent and advanced to the third round at Wimbledon

Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Marta Kostyuk, advanced to the third round of Wimbledon 2026, matching her personal best at this grass-court Grand Slam.

In an extremely difficult three-set second-round match, the Ukrainian tennis player secured a hard-fought victory over “neutral” player Anna Blinkova, who had knocked out another Ukrainian, Yulia Starodubtseva, in the opening round of the tournament. The match lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes and ended with a score of 6–7 (5–7), 6–3, 6–3 in favor of the Kyiv native.

The match proved to be extremely tense. Despite a confident start in the first set, Kostyuk made some errors at the end of the tiebreak and lost the set to her opponent. However, in the second set, the 12th-seeded Ukrainian seized the initiative, played with maximum aggression, and evened the score. In the decisive set, Marta went on a powerful run, winning five games in a row, and confidently closed out her opponent in the ninth game. The match statistics showed a significant advantage for the Ukrainian in attack: she recorded 5 aces and 46 winners compared to Blinkova’s mere 11, which allowed her to offset her own 59 unforced errors and close out the match in her favor.
