The Kremlin has commented on the idea of a hockey match between the U.S. and Russia

Russia's national hockey teams have been suspended from international competitions starting in 2022 due to Russia's war against Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that there has been no progress so far regarding the organization of a potential match between the Russian and U.S. national hockey teams, which had previously been discussed at the initiative level.

This was stated by Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov in response to questions from propagandists.

In a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin last March, U.S. President Donald Trump supported the Russian dictator’s idea to organize hockey matches in the U.S. and Russia between Russian and American players competing in the Kontinental Hockey League and the National Hockey League.

“Trump spoke about it, but there has been no progress on this front. And, of course, this is very important and would be wonderful. And it would be a nice backdrop to some progress in bilateral relations,” Peskov said.

Russia’s national hockey teams have been barred from participating in international competitions since 2022 due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
