Yaremchuk was named the worst player of the match against Toulouse by L'Équipe
Lyon's Ukrainian forward Roman Yaremchuk has come under heavy criticism from France's leading sports media outlets following his poor performance in the 33rd round of Ligue 1.
The authoritative publication L'Équipe rated the player's performance in the match against Toulouse at just 2 out of a possible 10 points.
This rating made the Ukrainian the worst performer of the match, which ended in a 1-2 loss for his team.
French journalists noted the forward’s lack of involvement in creating dangerous opportunities near the opponent’s goal.
The publication noted that the Ukrainian failed to make an impact on offense, and his presence on the field was nearly invisible for most of the match.
Although the forward had previously shown better results, this match was a real failure for him.
Commentators recalled his previous successes: “He saved a difficult match against Rennes by heading in a perfect cross from Tolisso.”
However, in the match against Toulouse, the opponent’s defense managed to completely neutralize the Ukrainian player.
Roman’s stats in this match turned out to be extremely modest for a player of his caliber.
“His only contribution was a weak shot blocked by Nicolaisen in the 75th minute,” noted the L’Équipe report, highlighting a lack of sharpness in the final phase of the attack.
In addition to his low productivity, the player was notable for his emotional reaction to the referee’s decision. He received a yellow card for dissent in the 70th minute, and the coaching staff subsequently decided to take him out of the game.
In the 83rd minute, the Ukrainian was replaced by Nouama, but this did not help Lyon salvage the match.
Roman Yaremchuk himself gave a critical assessment of his performance for Lyon and acknowledged certain issues.
In comments to the press, he noted: “I can improve a lot,” demonstrating his readiness to continue working on his mistakes and increasing his scoring output.
Despite the setback in the last round, the striker’s overall stats in the current championship remain quite solid.
This season, Roman Yaremchuk has played ten matches in Ligue 1, scoring four goals and recording one assist.
