Usyk said he has no plans to run for president of Ukraine
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk denied rumors on July 25 about his possible participation in the presidential election. The athlete commented on the results of a public opinion poll in which he was included among the top five potential candidates for the office of head of state.
In the first round, 5.9% of respondents said they would vote for Usyk, placing him fifth among all contenders. However, the boxer is convinced that this figure is an underestimate.
“If I were considering running for president, I think more people would vote for me. But I will not be running for president of Ukraine,” Usyk said.
According to media reports, the current leaders in the poll are Volodymyr Zelenskyy (22.3%), Valeriy Zaluzhny (14.9%), and Mykhailo Fedorov (13.4%).

Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk has likely already decided on his final opponent in his professional career. According to The Ring, the Ukrainian’s team is in active negotiations for a fight against former world champion Deontay Wilder.
Oleksandr Usyk no longer tops the list of the world’s best boxers across all weight classes. The top spot in The Independent’s prestigious rankings is now held by Japanese champion Naoya Inoue. The Ukrainian, who for a long time was the world’s top boxer following his victories in the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, has dropped to second place.
