Cricketer Tristan Stubbs aims to cement his place in South Africa squads — TimesLIVE
South Africa cricketer Tristan Stubbs said he aims to cement his place in the team’s Test and One-Day International squads. Ahead of the match against Australia at the Wanderers stadium, he noted that he is ready to bat in any position in the batting order in order to help the team win.
As TimesLIVE reports, the 26-year-old Stubbs considers himself a versatile batter. According to him, he has already demonstrated in T20 matches the ability to adapt to different game situations: sometimes this requires aggressive shots, and at other times cautious play and scoring runs through singles.
An unsettled place in the lineup
Stubbs noted that he does not have a settled position in the Test team. In this format, he has batted at number three seven times, number four five times, number five twice, and number six once. In the ODI team, he has most often played at number five — in 11 of 15 innings.

The cricketer acknowledged that switching formats is more difficult for him than moving between batting positions. He explained that after batting at number three in a Test and number five in a T20, he has to quickly adjust his technique and assess the team’s needs directly on the field.
Competition and the season
In Test matches, Stubbs has an average of 31.62; he has two centuries and three half-centuries. At the same time, most of his experience has come in away fixtures: only five of his 14 Tests have been played in South Africa, and before the match against Australia he had played only two of 15 ODIs at home. Of his 12 Tests abroad, six were held on the subcontinent, where pitches favorable to spinners were prepared.
South Africa have eight Test matches and nine ODI games ahead this season. Stubbs did not play in the first ODI against Australia, which took place on Thursday. Matthew Breetzke, David Miller, Dewald Brevis and Rubin Hermann are also competing for places in the middle order of the ODI team. Stubbs said he is focused on his own role and will try to contribute to a South African victory if he gets the chance to play.
